The ATF is charged with enforcing gun laws and regulating the gun
industry. Mr. Todd Jones IS a Part of Obama’s 23-point gun control plan. This nomination has passed the Senate Judiciary Committee and has been sent to the full Senate for confirmation This is a permanent position as head of the ATF. Todd Jones is the person who took over as “acting” ATF Director when
Kenneth Melson was removed following the Fast and Furious Gunrunning Scandal.
Todd Jones has several widely reported and verified issues with mismanagement and squashing whistleblowers and it is unknown how involved he was in Operation Fast and Furious. This should make you wonder why our government is even considering putting yet another strong arm puppet in a leadership position.
Of even greater concern, however, are Jones’ pro-gun control views. We would never consider putting an anti-environmental person as the head of the EPA so why on earth would a gun control advocate lead the ATF? It is expected that the vote will go along party lines in which case Todd Jones will be confirmed by the Senate. No matter which aisle you favor, contact your senator now and voice your opinion.
There are a lot of mixed feelings about gun control in the US. When issues are emotionally charged, it is never a good idea to make long term decisions. This is true for both life and politics. Personally, we don’t think this is a party issue at all. It’s a constitutional right for all American citizens. Bill and I agree on this even though he is a Republican and I am a Democrat. In fact, my gun rights beliefs are even stronger than his. The constitution’s main objective is to keep the power with the people and protect them from tyranny in government. This fact must be reiterated to every American because each time we chip away at our rights and protections, we are going against what our Founder’s intended.
As Americans we have the right to bear arms. Not just to hunt or shoot for fun, but to have the ability to stand up against our government if the time should come when our government no longer works for the people. Some would say whatever firepower the government has, so shall the people. This is not a radical statement, but rather a founding principle of our Country and our Constitution.
"Firearms are second only to the Constitution in importance; they are the peoples’ liberty’s teeth."
